One of the truths every believer must understand is that God does not respond to human life randomly. There are acts that move the hand of God in a person’s direction, just as there are acts that can provoke His hand against a person. Many believers imagine that everything that happens in life is simply a matter of luck or spiritual warfare, but the Bible presents a different reality. God responds to the way we relate with Him. There are things we do that invite His involvement in our affairs, and there are things we do that distance us from His help. This is why the Bible reminds us again that “the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save” (Isaiah 59:1 KJV). If the hand of God seems absent in a situation, the problem is rarely with God’s power; the issue often lies in whether the life involved is aligned with the things that attract His intervention. When a believer understands this principle, he stops living carelessly and begins to live deliberately, knowing that his actions carry spiritual consequences before God.
It is also important to recognise that the acts that move God’s hand fall into different categories. Some are positive acts that provoke His favour and blessing, while others are negative acts that provoke His displeasure. The wise believer learns to avoid the negative ones and pursue the positive ones intentionally. In addition, these acts are not limited to purely spiritual activities like prayer and fasting. Some of them are spiritual, but others are expressed through practical actions in everyday life. The way a believer honours God, the way he handles responsibilities, the way he treats people, and the value he places on what belongs to God all reveal the posture of his heart. Heaven watches these things more closely than many believers realise. The tragedy is that some Christians desire the blessings of God without paying attention to the attitudes and actions that move His hand. But God is not a machine that releases answers simply because we press the right religious buttons.
He is a living Person who responds to the honour, obedience, and sincerity of His people.
This understanding prepares us for the specific acts we will examine in the coming days. When God begins to work for a man, the difference becomes obvious. Sometimes His hand adds to a person what years of effort could not produce. Sometimes it provides what human strength can never obtain. And at other times, His intervention becomes the difference between survival and disaster. Every believer should therefore desire to live in such a way that the hand of God is constantly moving in his favour. The choice before us is simple: we can live carelessly and leave our lives to struggle under human effort alone, or we can deliberately walk in the acts that provoke divine involvement. The wise believer chooses the second path. As we continue this journey, we will begin to explore the first major act that moves the hand of God positively in our direction: the act of honouring Him.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Do my daily attitudes and actions provoke the favourable hand of God or push it away? What deliberate step will I take today to honour God?
PRAYER: Father, teach me the acts that move Your hand in my favour. Help me avoid attitudes that provoke Your displeasure and lead me to live in ways that attract Your blessing, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
