16 October 2025: BRINGING THANKS THAT COSTS – 1 Chronicles 29:14, 2 Samuel 24:24
If your thanksgiving will be effective, come with an offering that tells the truth about the mercy you received. David said, βOf thine own have we given theeβ (1 Chr. 29:14, KJV); what we bring is still His, but He weighs our hearts in it. I want you to refuse βinsulting thanksβ β tokens that minimise Godβs intervention or separate gift from heart. David also said, βNeither will I offer burnt offeringsβ¦ of that which doth cost me nothingβ (2 Sam. 24:24, KJV). Let your thanksgiving be commensurate with the miracle: name it with precise words, honour it with a fitting seed, and present it with a posture that befits the King who helped you.
Consider Solomon. He returned to dedicate the house with abundant offerings, and the Lord later said, βI have heard thy prayerβ¦ and have hallowed this houseβ (see 1 Kgs. 8β9). Consider David again: he assembled gold, silver, and exact materials for Godβs work, then blessed the Lord publicly because every resource and ability came from Him (1 Chr. 29:10β14). Thanksgiving moves in that same revelation β you are not paying God back; you are honouring His grace with a response that carries weight. Do not bring to God what was meant for someone else, and do not present a gift while your heart takes a different posture.
Heaven reads motive before it receives material.
Prepare ahead; do not rush holy things. Decide what you are returning to thank Him for and how you will express it β testimony, memorial seed, personal visit to honour a channel, a day set apart in worship. Match the weight of the mercy with the weight of the response. Bring words you would never say to a man and adopt postures you would never give another β because only God did what God did. Let gratitude be thoughtful, timely, and tangible. When your heart and gift agree, your thanksgiving rises as a sweet savour before the Lord, and your altar becomes a place where future mercies are answered.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Which specific mercy requires a costlier, more truthful response from me? How will I prepare and present thanks β words, seed, posture β that truly matches what God has done?
PRAYER: Father, I refuse cheap thanks. Teach me to honour You with a heart-aligned, weighty response that fits Your mercy and pleases You, in Jesusβ name. Amen.
