As we stand at the close of the first month of this year, I want you to know that God is not wasting any of the pressures you have faced since the year started. There is a cup attached to every calling and a measure of hardness attached to every divine programme. Jesus asked the ambitious disciples, Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of. Pioneers in any field discover that before people celebrate their crown they have first drunk a cup in secret places. You may be wondering why your own road seems rough now when others appear to be cruising. It may be that God is giving you your own cup to drink for the sake of the future He has shown you. First Peter 1:7 says the trial of your faith is more precious than gold. Gold passes through fire before it shines on the neck of kings and your faith passes through fire before it becomes praise and glory in the sight of God.
Paul told Timothy, Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. A soldier that dodges training will disgrace himself in battle. In the same way, Christians that run away from every difficult season remain shallow in the spirit. There are times when you will refuse attractive compromises and it will look as if you are the foolish one while those who bowed to Babylon seem to be enjoying themselves. If you are a pioneer in your profession, in ministry or in a new assignment, you are drinking the cup that belongs to that ground. You are learning what it takes to stand where nobody has stood before you in your family. When that cup is finished, your cup of anointing begins to overflow. Others will sit down later and drink from your wisdom, your testimony and the fruits that came from your obedience but they will not know what it cost you.
Stop arguing with God about why the road is not smooth and start asking Him what He wants you to learn.
There are some roads you will not think your way through, you will pray and sometimes cry your way through. Cry if you need to but do not resign. Go back to the last clear instruction the Holy Spirit gave you and stay with it. Refuse the temptation to run back to Egypt just because Egypt is comfortable. Refuse the lie of the devil that tells you that nobody else has ever faced what you are facing. Many have gone through similar fires and they came out better and brighter. As you keep your vital union with Jesus and keep your obedience in place, this cup will pass, the lesson will remain and fruits will begin to show. You will not just wear a title in 2026, you will wear a crown that has weight in the spirit because you allowed God to develop in you the true heart of an overcomer.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Have you been trying to throw away the cup that is attached to your crown in this season? What adjustments will you make today so that you can cooperate with the Holy Spirit instead of running back to Egypt.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, strengthen my heart to endure the hardness attached to my calling; help me to drink my cup with faith, learn every lesson, and come into the crown and fruits you planned for me, in your name, amen.
