In the above scripture, you will wonder why God was so particular about the words you speak so much so that He said you would be judged for every idle word you speak. Eventually, the Holy Spirit showed me the reason. God has entrusted us with enormous power in our words and obviously, He didn’t give us that privilege so that we can misuse it in mindless talks and gossip but in order to be a mighty tool in birthing forth His purpose on earth.
As a Christian, your speech must consistently prosper the Kingdom of God and be profitable. If you ever find yourself in a situation in which you have nothing to say, start speaking in tongues. That way, you’re sure you’re doing one of the most productive things you can with your mouth.
Finally, your lingo must be clean and godly. The majority of Christians today are so contaminated by worldly ways that unless they tell you directly that they are Christians, you won’t be able to tell from their manner of speech. A lot of them use foul slangs and swearwords that worldly people use. God detests this. As a Christian, you must ensure that you actively work on your manner of speech and root out of your mouth such manners that cast aspersion on your Christian life.
PRAYER: Lord, set a guard over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips (Psa. 141:3) in Jesus’ name. Amen!
