Listen while praying, commuting, or preparing for the day.A true son is serviceable. He does not enter the family asking first, “What position will I occupy?” He asks, “What needs to be done?” Jesus settled this matter plainly in Mark 10:45: “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister.” If the Pattern Son came to serve, nobody becomes too important for service. Sonship removes the mentality that certain assignments are beneath you. It teaches you that the significance of an assignment comes from the One you are serving, not from how impressive the assignment looks before men. Some people will serve enthusiastically when there is visibility, recognition or a title attached, but disappear when the work is ordinary. That is not the spirit of Jesus. A son understands that whether he is standing before thousands or handling something nobody notices, he can still serve the same Lord with the same heart.
Ministry is service, and every person must identify his own place of service. The apostles in Acts 6 understood that ministering the Word was their service, while others were appointed to handle another necessary responsibility. Nobody needed to make the other person’s assignment inferior. Timothy also served with Paul in the gospel, and Philippians 2:22 calls that relationship the proof of him “as a son with the father.” Serviceability means you can be useful where God has placed you without demanding that everything revolve around your gift, convenience or recognition. God develops leadership, capacity and maturity while you serve. Many people are praying for opportunity while overlooking the service already lying in front of them. They want to be discovered when God is waiting for them to become dependable.
Don’t carry an entitlement spirit into the things of God. If you see something that is your responsibility, do it. If you are assigned a task, give it your best. Don’t serve carelessly because nobody important is watching. Jesus is watching. And don’t allow your natural status outside the house to make ordinary Kingdom service offensive to you. Your professional title, education or financial level does not exempt you from the spirit of service. The real Son of God washed feet. Let that settle your heart. Service does not diminish a son; service develops him. There are capacities God will never build in you while you remain merely an observer. Become useful. Become dependable. Let people know that when responsibility comes into your hands, it will be carried faithfully. The Kingdom does not only need gifted people; it needs sons who are available to serve.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
Do I serve with the same heart when there is no recognition or visibility? Have I become too conscious of my status, gift or position to handle an assignment that simply needs to be done?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, form Your servant heart in me. Deliver me from entitlement and make me useful, dependable and willing to serve faithfully wherever Your purpose requires me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
