Listen while praying, commuting, or preparing for the day.A true son should eventually become commendable. There should be something in his life that makes people recognise that proper formation has taken place. When David ran toward Goliath and brought him down, Saul asked in 1 Samuel 17:55, “Whose son is this youth?” That question is very significant. Saul had soldiers on the battlefield, but none of them had produced what this young man produced. David’s manifestation made somebody ask about the formation behind him. It was not merely a soldier that killed Goliath; it was a son. David had been formed through obedience, errands, responsibility, private battles and faithfulness in his father’s house before he ever stood before Goliath. Public manifestation revealed something that had been built privately. That is what commendability is about: your life begins to give evidence that the process of sonship has produced substance in you.
The same thing can be seen in Timothy. Paul could speak confidently about him because there was “proof of him” as a son with the father in the gospel. Philippians 2:22 uses the language of proven character. Timothy was not recommended merely because he was available or gifted; something had been tested and established in him. This is what God wants from us. Gift without formation can be like a wild flower in the bush; beautiful perhaps, but unprotected, untrained and easily wasted. The flower deliberately cultivated and pruned can contribute to the beauty of the environment. In the same way, divine formation brings your gift under character, discipline and purpose. God does not want your potential to remain wild. He wants a life that can be trusted, recommended and given responsibility because there is evidence behind it.
Ask yourself what your life presently recommends about the house and Father forming you. When people encounter your integrity, work ethic, obedience, relationships and response under pressure, do they see evidence of Christ? Commendability is not self-advertisement. David did not stand before Saul announcing his credentials; his response to Goliath spoke. Timothy did not campaign for Paul’s recommendation; years of proven service produced it. Let your life speak that way. Submit to training when nobody celebrates it. Build character before opportunity demands it. Be faithful in the small place. Allow the Holy Spirit to prune what must be pruned. One day, the demand of destiny will expose what has actually been formed in you. May your manifestation cause people to glorify God and recognise that the Father has truly done a work in His son.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
What does my present life recommend about the formation I have received? If greater responsibility exposed my character today, would there be enough proof behind me to justify trust?
PRAYER
Father, make my life commendable before You. Let Your training produce proven character in me, and cause every manifestation of my life to reveal Christ and bring You glory, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
