9 September 2026: DO NOT BORROW AN IMAGE OF SUCCESS – Luke 12:15; 1 Timothy 6:6-8

Many people believe that success must be announced through expensive clothes, large cars and a lifestyle that continually attracts attention. This is not wisdom. Truly wealthy people do not always feel compelled to display what they have. In the early days of our ministry, a woman suggested that my wife and I needed to improve our wardrobe so that our appearance would match the anointing. She offered to connect us with someone who would supply clothing materials on credit. My wife refused because debt for appearance was against our principles. Never allow anyone to pressure you beyond the level you have prayerfully chosen. Anyone who cannot accept you at your present disciplined level may be trying to negotiate away your future.

Ministry is not validated by possessions, and life does not consist in the abundance of things a person owns. What is in your heart is more important than what is parked outside your house. I have never respected a minister merely because of physical possessions; I look for substance, sound doctrine, spiritual weight and the Word of God in the heart. The same principle applies outside ministry. A person can look impressive and still be financially empty, while another may appear modest yet be building something solid. The pressure to look successful has pushed many people into unnecessary expenses and secret financial strain. When image becomes more important than substance, people begin to borrow for clothes, ceremonies, gadgets and social acceptance, while neglecting savings, training and productive investments.

Choose financial modesty without apology. Modesty does not mean carelessness, inferiority or lack of excellence; it means living within your present strength while building toward your future. Do not befriend people who continually make you ashamed of responsible decisions. Your appearance should be decent, but it must not become a prison. Before spending to impress people, ask what that money could build, protect or multiply. The world often tries to bargain for your future by selling you an image you cannot yet sustain. Refuse that bargain. Let your progress be genuine before it becomes visible. The Word in your heart, competence in your hands, integrity in your choices and discipline in your finances are stronger tickets to the future than borrowed splendour. Make up your mind that you will not sacrifice tomorrow for applause today. Live honourably, dress responsibly and let growth come in its season. When God enlarges you, you will not need to pretend; the evidence will speak naturally. Financial peace is more valuable than public admiration. People may praise an outfit, event or possession for a moment, but you alone will carry the burden of the bill afterwards. Choose the peace of disciplined progress. Let wisdom govern your presentation.

Have I spent beyond my level merely to impress people? What financial decision must I correct to protect my future from the pressure of appearances?

PRAYER

Lord, deliver me from the need to impress people. Give me contentment, discipline and the courage to live responsibly at the level You have presently placed me.
