12 December 2024: Avoiding Common Pitfalls in Marriage (4) – 1 Timothy 2:12, Matthew 18:19
When there is a lack of agreement and a tendency to settle through concession, it leads to compromise, which can negatively impact your marriage and expose it to the attacks of the devil. God’s design for a Christian home is rooted in agreement, not compromise (Matthew 18:19). It is essential to come to a mutual agreement on every issue instead of falling into compromise, which essentially means, “I give up something and settle in the middle.” This indicates a lack of true agreement on the matter.
Remember that marriage is not a business partnership characterized by a win-win mentality.
In business, profits are divided according to the contributions of each partner. However, in marriage, the husband and wife become one, each losing themselves in the other and giving their all. If a couple cannot trust each other enough to claim that everything they possess is shared, there is a significant issue that needs addressing.
Another critical point to consider is that a woman should not hold authority over the man or the home (1 Timothy 2:12). As a man, if your wife is taking the lead in spiritual matters or attempting to teach you, it is crucial to develop yourself to genuinely function in headship without hypocrisy. A man is meant to be the head, and he should strive to do more than his wife in various aspects. The head houses sensitive organs like the eyes, mouth, ears, and nose, which means as a man, you must cultivate a heightened sensitivity compared to your wife.
Wisdom should naturally flow from you as the head of the home. If your wife finds herself arguing with you on every matter, it signals that you are not leading with wisdom. True wisdom will encourage a woman to be silent and embrace your headship in a spirit of submission.
PRAYER: Lord, baptize me with the spirit of wisdom to function correctly in my marriage.
