One of the greatest advantages of staying in vital union with the Lord is accuracy about your future. When I began my ministry, the Lord directed me to Ilesa, Osun State, Nigeria, where I was to start, and I was there for fifteen years as He had planned. In those years He gave us a vision to build a three thousand five-hundred-seater auditorium, we acquired land, laid foundations and people believed that was where I would remain permanently. Some even sold their cars and brought the proceeds, but every attempt to sell those cars failed. It was vital union that made me go back to ask the Lord what was happening. He told me clearly that it was not His plan for us to proceed with that project. He instructed me to return the cars to their owners and then He showed the next step, which was to move to Osogbo. If I had stayed with the emotion of the moment and the opinion of men without that living walk with God, the manifestation of His plan would have been confined to Ilesa, and we would have built what He was no longer building.
Your future with God is not a straightforward all-encompassing document like a single sheet of paper you can read from start to finish. It is like a scroll that slowly unravels before you. The plan of God for your life is revealed in stages and phases, and it unfolds gradually in size and in time. As you follow His guidance and walk in vital union with Him, He shows you one aspect of the plan at a time. Your faithfulness in carrying out what He has shown and your sensitivity to His leading are crucial because He controls the timing, the strategy and the direction. Everything you are seeing in your life now is minuscule compared to what is yet to manifest, and the realisation of that potential is tied to the vitality of your relationship with God. When you maintain that connection, He opens new pages and phases of your life. You suddenly discover there is much more to your existence than you initially perceived. Without that connection, you will think the little you are seeing now is the whole of your destiny and you will settle in a place that was only meant to be a phase.
I want you to enter this year with a fresh respect for the Holy Spirit as the One that carries the scroll of your future.
You may think your life is only about one profession, one gift or one location, but through vital fellowship He can begin to show you schools, companies, ministries, books, inventions and assignments that are inside you and waiting to be born. What you are today is not all that you are. The details of where to go, when to move, who to join yourself to and what to start are not in your brain, they are in the mind of God, and He unveils them as you walk closely with Him. This is why losing vital contact with God is dangerous. The devil can introduce wrong steps and lead you astray even if you have a general idea of your calling. Let this new year meet you in the place of deliberate fellowship so that as the scroll begins to open, you will be at the right place, with the right people, doing the right things at the right time.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Have you been treating your present level as the full picture of your destiny instead of just a phase in the scroll of God for your life. What specific changes will you make this year to follow the Holy Spirit more closely so He can open the next page of your future.
PRAYER: Lord, open my eyes to see my life as a scroll in Your hands and help me walk in such vital union with You that every next step of my future is clear and accurate. Amen.
