19 June 2023: GROWTH TO SERVICE BRINGS WHAT THE FATHER WANTS – John 3:16; Philippians 2:19-22

The difference between a child and a son is that a child enjoys the love of a father while a son returns something to the father for all the love he has received. In the first phase of our relationship with the Father, the focus is on the Father’s love for His child – “For God so loved the world that He gave…” (Joh. 3:16). Love always gives and that is what a lot of Christians want to enjoy from the Father.

However, the Father is also expecting something from you. You will begin to give the Father pleasure just like Jesus did when you begin to bring what He expects. This second phase is all about service.

In a family, maturity comes with contributing your part to household chores and running errands as a child. A mother is pleased when her child comes into the kitchen and says, “Mummy, how can I help you?” Maturity and growth always come with a willingness to contribute. Consumption without contribution is a mark of irresponsibility and it does not give pleasure to the Father. Even though the focus of today’s devotional is on your responsibilities to the heavenly Father, you should also see how this applies to your earthly responsibilities. I trust God that you will take up more responsibilities in various areas of your function after reading this devotional.

PRAYER: I will be a responsible son who continually gives joy to the Father. I will bring what the Father wants in due course and time, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
