Listen while praying, commuting, or preparing for the day.One of the clearest marks of a true son is bendability. A son can lay down his preference and embrace the will of the Father. Jesus said in John 6:38, “I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” That statement captures the heart of sonship. Jesus had a will, but He did not allow His will to become stronger than the Father’s will. Many believers want God’s blessing, protection and promotion, but they also want to remain unbendable. They have already decided what they will do, where they will go, whom they will listen to and how they will respond. When God’s direction agrees with them, they call it leading; when it crosses them, they begin to argue. Sonship is proved when the Father can bend your preference without breaking your commitment to Him.
Isaiah 64:8 says, “we are the clay, and thou our potter.” Clay that refuses to bend cannot become what the potter intends. In the sonship process, God often works through instructions, circumstances and responsibilities that force you to choose between your preference and His purpose. This is where stubbornness can disguise itself as strength. A person may say, “That is just the way I am,” when what he really means is, “I do not want God to touch this area.” But the Father is not forming your temperament; He is forming Christ in you. Jesus could say yes to the Father even when obedience led through discomfort. A bendable son does not lose conviction; he simply understands that his convictions must remain under God. He can change direction when God speaks, adjust when corrected and surrender a personal plan when heaven requires something different.
Don’t become so rigid that God has to work around you instead of through you. The more He entrusts to you, the more important bendability becomes. A gifted but unbendable person can become dangerous because strength without submission eventually resists divine order. Let God retain the right to interrupt your plans, revise your assumptions and redirect your steps. When He speaks, don’t ask first how much it will inconvenience you; ask whether it is His will. Stay soft before God. Stay responsive. Stay willing to change. The safest strength is strength that can still bow. The greatest Son who ever lived was not weak, yet He was completely yielded to His Father. Let that same spirit rule you until God can shape your life freely and use you exactly where His purpose requires.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
How easily can God change my plans when His will differs from mine? Is there any area where I have called stubbornness strength and refused to become bendable?
PRAYER
Father, keep my heart soft and bendable in Your hands. Deliver me from stubbornness and self-will, and teach me to choose Your will above my preference every time, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
