Listen while praying, commuting, or preparing for the day.A true son is sendable. He can be trusted with an assignment and will carry the heart of the sender into that assignment. In 1 Samuel 17:17-20, Jesse sent David to take food to his brothers and bring back news of their welfare. David obeyed the instruction and went. That simple errand eventually brought him into the environment where Goliath was threatening Israel, but David did not leave home saying, “I am going to kill a giant.” He went because his father sent him. This is an important lesson in sonship. Some people want great opportunities but despise ordinary errands. They want assignments that display their gifts, but they are not dependable in the small things placed in their hands. God often hides major doors inside simple obedience. A sendable son does not need every instruction to look prestigious before he responds.
Timothy was another example of a sendable son. In Philippians 2:19-22, Paul could confidently say he hoped to send Timothy because Timothy would naturally care for the state of the believers. That confidence did not come merely from Timothy’s gifting; it came from proven disposition. Paul knew the spirit Timothy would carry when he arrived. That is what makes a person truly sendable. Can the person sending you trust that you will not change the assignment to suit yourself? Can you represent another person’s heart without turning the assignment into your own platform? David went for Jesse. Timothy went for Paul in the gospel. Jesus came because the Father sent Him. Sonship carries an understanding that being sent is not inferiority; it is trust. The sender is placing something precious into your hands and expecting you to handle it faithfully.
Ask yourself whether God can truly send you. Can He send you to a place that does not flatter your ambition? Can your pastor, leader or employer give you responsibility without constant supervision? Can you complete an assignment without changing its spirit because you think your own idea is better? Sendability requires obedience, faithfulness and freedom from self-importance. Don’t wait until somebody gives you a glamorous task before you become dependable. Learn to honour the small errand. Carry instructions accurately. Report back faithfully. Protect the interest of the one who sent you. When God finds a son who can be sent, greater responsibilities can safely follow. David’s errand opened a battlefield; Timothy’s faithfulness opened nations and churches. Your next major opportunity may already be hidden inside the simple assignment you are presently tempted to overlook.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
Can God and the leaders He has placed over me trust me with an assignment without constant supervision? Do I honour small errands as seriously as opportunities that give me visibility?
PRAYER
Father, make me dependable and sendable. Teach me to carry instructions faithfully, serve without self-importance and represent Your heart accurately wherever You send me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
