16 September 2026: GRACE MUST BE WORKED – 2 Corinthians 9:8; 2 Kings 4:2-7

Grace is one of the major ways God rewards obedience. God does not owe anyone, and when you labour for Him, He compensates you with spiritual forces that can produce natural results. As a student, I took seriously the promise that whoever gives up something for Christ and the gospel will receive a hundredfold. Since I needed understanding for my studies, I asked God for a hundredfold understanding as I went out to preach. I did not abandon diligence; I studied, but I expected divine help upon my effort. One classmate once complained that I had missed a tutorial, yet arrived later and explained the subject clearly. What he called partiality was grace responding to service and faith.

God makes all grace abound towards you so that you can have sufficiency and abound unto good works. However, receiving grace is only the beginning. Grace must be recognised, engaged and translated into action. The widow in Second Kings said she had nothing except a jar of oil. She saw the oil only as it was, but the anointing revealed what it could become. Elisha told her to borrow vessels, shut the door and begin to pour. The oil multiplied while she acted. Afterwards, she was instructed to sell it, pay the debt and live on the remainder. God supplied the supernatural force, but she had to gather vessels, pour, organise the product and sell it. The miracle did not remove practical responsibility; it empowered it.

Do not pray for grace and then ignore the ideas, instructions and opportunities that grace brings. If God gives you five workable ideas and you act on none, you may continue to complain while carrying unanswered provision. Ask yourself what is already in your house, hand, training, relationship or environment that you have dismissed as too small. Natural thinking sees only present size; grace reveals potential. Yet potential becomes profit only through obedience and work. Do not reduce God’s reward to cash. Sometimes the grace He gives is understanding, an idea, unusual favour, stamina, accuracy or the ability to see value where others see nothing. These may look less dramatic than money, but they can create and preserve far more wealth. Honour the form in which heaven answers you, and develop the natural structures through which that answer can serve people. Grace is not an excuse for passivity; it is divine ability given to make obedience fruitful. Work with it carefully, and what looked insufficient can become the answer to debt, stability and future assignment.

PRAYER

Lord, open my eyes to recognise the grace You have given me. Help me to work faithfully with every idea, instruction and opportunity until it produces Your intended result.
