25 August 2026: YOU BECOME THE SERVANT OF WHAT YOU YIELD TO – Romans 6:11–13; Romans 6:16–18

Your daily life is determined by what you consistently yield yourself to. At salvation, you became a partaker of the divine nature and received power to live like a child of God. However, God will not force His nature upon your conduct. He has empowered you, but you must exercise your will. In the face of temptation, you can respond either to the pull of the flesh or to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Paul said, “Reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.” To be dead to sin means that, although sin calls, pressures, or presents an attractive argument, you refuse to respond. To be alive unto God means that when truth, righteousness, and obedience call, you answer promptly.

The word “let” in the New Testament often points to something under your responsibility. When Scripture says, “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body,” it means that sin cannot reign without your permission and cooperation. You cannot ask a pastor to lay hands on you so that you will stop choosing lies while you continue planning deceptive answers. No prayer group can exercise your will for you. You must decide what will receive your mouth, mind, hands, body, time, and strength. The same inward effort required to tell a lie can be used to tell the truth. The same tongue that can gossip can pray, encourage, and speak accurately. The same mind that can nurse offence can meditate upon God’s Word. Others may yield to compromise, but you must settle it within yourself: “Others may, but I will not.”

Whatever you repeatedly present yourself to will eventually treat you like a master. If you yield your members to lies, you become a servant of falsehood; if you yield yourself to the Holy Spirit, you become a servant of righteousness. Before salvation, you may have carefully planned what to say whenever you were confronted. Now that you belong to Christ, present that same vessel to truth. Own up when you are wrong, ask for forgiveness, and accept the consequences of your actions. Punishment received for confessed wrongdoing can make you better, but escape secured through a lie twists something inside you and places you under the enemy’s influence. Grace does not excuse continued yielding to sin; grace empowers you to choose righteousness. Therefore, do not wait until temptation becomes intense before deciding. Present yourself deliberately to God each morning. Yield your thoughts, emotions, speech, appetites, and decisions to Him. The nature that dominates your conduct will be the nature you repeatedly obey. Choose truth, remain under God’s government, and keep your feet firmly in the even place.

THOUGHT TO PONDER: What nature am I strengthening through my repeated choices? Which part of my life must I deliberately present to God as an instrument of righteousness?

PRAYER: Father, I yield my thoughts, words, body, and decisions to You. Strengthen me to refuse every pull of sin and respond promptly to the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name.
