When Training Opportunities Are Lost

One of the sobering truths in the journey of calling is that the duties God reserves for your training will not always remain there forever. There are seasons in which God allows you to handle certain responsibilities so that you can grow through them. During that period, the assignment may not be your permanent calling, but it is a platform through which God is shaping something inside you. If you handle that duty carelessly, complain about it constantly, or refuse to develop the discipline it requires, you may lose the opportunity it carries. God does not leave His work unattended forever. If the training season passes and the duty is still not being handled properly, He may bring someone else who will perform it as their actual calling rather than as a training exercise. What was once your classroom can become another person’s assignment.

This principle explains why some people remain stagnant in their development while others grow rapidly. The difference is often in how they treat the responsibilities placed before them. Some believers see duties in church merely as tasks to complete, while others recognise them as opportunities to develop. When someone approaches a responsibility with seriousness, humility, and willingness to learn, the duty begins to shape character and competence. But when the same duty is handled with indifference, it produces little growth. God designed these assignments to train His people, not simply to occupy them. That is why Scripture repeatedly emphasises faithfulness in small matters. The way you respond to the present assignment determines the doors that will open ahead.

Therefore, you must approach every duty in the house of God with the understanding that it may be preparing you for something greater. Whether you are arranging chairs, operating equipment, assisting in administration, or serving in any other capacity, the real question is not how visible the task is but how faithfully you are developing through it. If you treat the opportunity well, it will leave a deposit of growth in your life. But if you neglect it, the season may pass and the chance to learn those lessons will be lost. Take heed to the ministry you have received and handle it with seriousness, because every stage of responsibility is part of the journey toward fulfilling your calling.

THOUGHT TO PONDER

Am I treating my present duties as opportunities for growth? Could I be losing training that God intended to develop my life?

PRAYER

Lord, help me recognise the value of the responsibilities You have placed in my hands. Give me diligence and faithfulness so that I will not waste the opportunities meant to train me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
