Sin will withdraw the comfort but not the presence of the Holy Spirit from a believer. For the presence of the Holy Spirit to leave you, you would have committed the unpardonable sin. If you are reading this devotional at this time, in all probability, you are likely not to have done that, so, relax. The Holy Spirit withdraws His comfort but not His presence when you grieve Him by doing wrong or committing sins.
However, there could be occasions when a Christian feels dry. Does it mean that the Holy Spirit has left? Take note of the word “feel”. You did not receive a feeling when you receive the Holy Ghost; you received a divine Person.
As real as Jesus is to you, so is the Holy Ghost and His indwelling presence ought to be (as real as the cloth you put on). The Holy Spirit NEVER leaves you.
So, let me show you some practical steps on how to handle the feeling of dryness or feeling that the Holy Spirit has left you.
a) Take the Psalms and speak them to yourself. Say them out loud.
b) Begin to worship God. Start singing songs of worship to Him.
c) Remind yourself of past mercies of God to you in a personal way.
d) Don’t condemn yourself or search for sins when there is none.
e) Learn to be thankful all the time.
Before you know it, after about ten minutes of doing all or some of these, you are already enjoying the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to maintain the right attitude that sustains the comfort of the Holy Spirit. Amen!
