Listen while praying, commuting, or preparing for the day.A lying spirit does not ordinarily find rest in a life that is committed to truth. It looks for a handle: repeated exaggeration, deliberate concealment, false impressions, or outright lies that a person has practised until his conscience no longer protests. The prophets around Ahab had become accustomed to telling the king what he wanted to hear. Because they had chosen a nature of falsehood and preferred acceptance to truth, it became easy for a lying spirit to operate through their mouths. One of them even produced what appeared to be a prophetic drama, but it did not come from the Spirit of God. This is why you must never treat lying as a small weakness. What begins as an action of the flesh can eventually create room for an evil influence to strengthen that pattern.
When a person repeatedly indulges a wrong desire, the spiritual force behind that desire begins to gain greater access. Someone may first tell lies consciously to avoid punishment or to impress others. If he continues, he may reach a point where lying becomes almost automatic. Even when the facts are clear, and everybody knows the truth, he keeps insisting upon the falsehood. His conscience has been silenced, his reasoning has become twisted, and what he once chose now appears to control him. The same principle operates with other sins: repeated yielding builds an appetite and provides a foothold for bondage. Therefore, do not wait until you feel overpowered before you respond. The moment the Holy Spirit exposes a lie, repent, correct it, and withdraw every permission you have given the enemy through falsehood.
If a lying spirit comes against a man of truth, it should find everywhere slippery, with nothing to hold on to. Build your life so that the enemy cannot discover an agreement with his nature inside you. Do not use lies as a tool to escape tight corners, protect your image, make money, or keep relationships. Every falsehood brings you closer to the camp of the father of lies, but every act of truth strengthens your alignment with God. Examine not only your words but also the impressions you create, the reports you submit, the promises you make, and the stories you repeat. Renounce every enjoyment of exaggeration and every habit of saying what people want to hear. Where deception has become compulsive, seek serious pastoral help, submit to the Word, and make complete corrections as the Holy Spirit directs. Tell the truth and let the devil be put to shame. When your conscience is clean, your mouth is straight, and your heart has no secret partnership with falsehood, the enemy loses the handles by which he seeks to manipulate your life.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Is there any habit of falsehood that gives the enemy a handle in my life? What lie or misleading impression must I renounce and correct today?
PRAYER: Father, expose and remove every agreement with falsehood in me. Let the enemy find no handle in my life, and establish my heart and mouth firmly in truth in Jesus’ name.
