4 August 2026: WHEN WRONG NO LONGER FEELS WRONG – 1 Timothy 1:19; Proverbs 21:2

One of the ways you can use your conscience to gauge your spiritual health is to check how many unscriptural things you can do without feeling bad. That is a serious test. A Christian should not measure his standing with God only by the fact that he comes to church, carries a Bible, joins a department, or knows the language of believers. The real question is, “What is happening inside you when you violate the Scriptures?” If you can do what God forbids and nothing troubles you inside, something has gone wrong with your spiritual health. When a believer’s conscience is alive, wrong does not feel normal. Even if he falls, there is a witness within that makes him know he has stepped outside God’s standard. Don’t ever celebrate the ability to sin without disturbance; it is not maturity, it is danger.

Once the standard of the conscience is reset, it begins to allow excuses that sound acceptable only to the person who has adjusted it. That is why someone can do what is plainly against the Word of God and still explain it away. What sounds strange to sincere believers may sound normal to such a person because his inner scale has been tampered with. The world may say that certain things are common, but it does not mean they are scriptural. The fact that many people are doing something does not make it safe for your destiny. A young man once excused immorality in courtship by saying that it was what everybody did before marriage. That kind of statement does not come from a conscience that is still at God’s standard. It comes from a conscience that has made room for evil and given it a comfortable name.

Never allow your Christianity to become a mere outward identity while your conscience is no longer alive towards God. It is better for people to say, “That man has a conscience,” than for them to merely say, “He goes to church.” Church attendance is important, but it is not a substitute for inward truth. The degree of God’s original standard still remaining in your conscience will determine how safely you walk. Remember how you felt the first time you told a lie after you got born again, or the first time you did something that the Word of God condemned. That feeling was not to destroy you; it was God’s mercy calling you back. Don’t silence it. When your conscience corrects you, thank God for it. When it troubles you, respond quickly. When it argues with you, don’t harden your heart. A living conscience is one of God’s greatest protections for your soul in these last days.

THOUGHT TO PONDER: What wrong action no longer troubles me as it once did? Am I excusing what God is asking me to correct?

PRAYER: Father, keep my conscience alive and tender before You. Deliver me from excuses, compromise, and every inward adjustment that makes wrong feel normal in Jesus’ name.
