21 February 2026: ARGUMENTS DON’T SAVE SOULS: WISDOM DOES – Proverbs 11:30; 2 Timothy 2:24-25

One of the quickest ways to waste a soul-winning opportunity is to turn it into a fight. Some people don’t want truth; they want to pull you into a ring and make you swing till you’re tired. Then you go home feeling you “defended the faith,” yet nobody was rescued. You are not called to win debates; you are called to win souls. The Bible says, “He that winneth souls is wise (Proverbs 11:30 KJV).” Wisdom knows when to speak, how to speak, and when to withdraw. If your mouth becomes hot and your spirit becomes rough, you have lost the atmosphere for conviction. A sinner may be wrong, but he is still a soul, not a punching bag. Don’t let pride turn your witness into strife.

The Scripture says: “The servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient.” Notice it didn’t say “weak”; it said gentle and patient. There is a way to speak truth that makes the heart open, and there is a way to speak truth that slams the door. Your goal is not to prove you are correct; your goal is to bring the man to repentance and faith. That is why it says, “In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance.” Meekness is not fear; it is controlled strength. And remember, repentance is God’s work in the heart; your role is to present Christ clearly and create room for the Holy Ghost to convict.

When you insist on fighting, you push the Holy Ghost out and invite ego in.

So practise wise witnessing. Learn to ask questions that expose the heart: “If you die today, where will you spend eternity?” “What do you think Jesus came to do?” Let them talk, then bring the gospel straight: sin, judgement, Christ’s death and resurrection, forgiveness, new life. If they keep dodging, don’t chase arguments; return to the main matter: “This is not about winning talk; it’s about your soul.” If they become hostile, withdraw with honour: don’t trade insults: and keep the door open: “I’m here when you’re ready to talk sincerely.” Then pray for them; intercession breaks what conversation cannot break. Wisdom doesn’t just speak, wisdom rescues.

THOUGHT TO PONDER: Do I get drawn into debates and lose the soul’s heart? How will I keep my next gospel conversation centred on Christ and still speak with meekness?

PRAYER: Lord, make me wise and gentle. Keep me from strife; give me words that convict and heal, and lead souls to Jesus through me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
