Faith is like fire—it needs feeding and protection to keep burning. If you stop feeding fire or expose it to wrong winds, it will die out. In the same way, your faith must be constantly fed with the Word and shielded from harmful influences. Mark 4:24 says, “Take heed what ye hear…” meaning you must be careful with what you expose your ears and heart to. Many believers lose their vibrant faith because they carelessly listen to words of fear, unbelief, or doubt. Whether in public places, on social media, or even casual conversations, be deliberate about filtering what enters your ears. What you allow to settle in your heart will eventually shape your faith.
Faith is destroyed when you expose yourself to environments or conversations that contradict the promises of God.
I remember a story of a man who went fishing with two others who kept saying, “There’s no fish here again.” He quietly walked away from their negative confession and began to declare Psalm 1:3: “…whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” He caught more fish than them, not because of a better bait but because of his atmosphere of faith. That scripture became a rod in his hand. When you dwell in an atmosphere of unbelief and fear, your faith becomes suppressed. But when you declare and meditate on the Word, even when nothing looks promising, your faith will produce results.
There are places and people you must walk away from to preserve your faith. Sometimes it may not be easy, but your future depends on it. Your faith life is your access to everything in God. Once your faith is compromised, your walk with God becomes shallow and ineffective. Let your ears become gates that only allow truth, hope, and God’s promises to enter. If it is not building your faith, it is tearing it down. Refuse to let wrong reports, news, or worldly logic dismantle the structure of your belief in God. Choose faith over facts and protect your spiritual fire from being quenched.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: What kind of words are feeding your faith or weakening it? Are there people or environments you need to step away from to guard your faith life?
Father, I will protect my faith. I shut the door against negative voices and open my heart only to Your Word in Jesus’ name.
