You must understand God’s intention whenever He begins to deal with your life. The sonship process is not designed to humiliate you; it is designed to birth and develop the nature of Christ in you. That distinction is important because the flesh often interprets divine dealings as an insult. When your preference is denied, your opinion is overruled or somebody you consider junior to you is placed in a position where you must submit, pride immediately asks, “Why should I accept this?” But Romans 8:29 reveals God’s goal: He predestinated us “to be conformed to the image of his Son.” God is after the image of Jesus in you. The process is therefore not about reducing your value; it is about removing whatever prevents Christ from being expressed through your life. If you misunderstand that purpose, you can fight the very process that was sent to prepare you.

Humility is not proved when you gladly submit to someone you already consider obviously superior. The deeper test comes when the structure God uses touches your reputation and self-importance. Naaman could easily have respected an impressive ceremony from Elisha, but the instruction to dip in Jordan offended him. In the same way, Philippians 2:5-8 shows Jesus laying aside reputation, taking the form of a servant and humbling Himself in obedience. That is the nature God is reproducing in His sons. Sometimes He will allow circumstances that reveal how strongly you still need recognition, status, control or preferential treatment. Don’t immediately call every such experience humiliation. Ask whether God is exposing a part of your flesh that cannot carry the destiny ahead. There are things hidden in a person’s nature that only the cross can properly deal with.

Settle it in your heart that whatever God genuinely uses to make you more like Jesus is working for you, not against you. This does not mean accepting degradation, wickedness or abuse from people. Sonship never requires cooperation with sin. But where the issue is your pride, ego, status or unwillingness to submit to lawful divine order, don’t disguise resistance as self-respect. Let God work. The Father knows exactly what must die and what must live in you. He knows the structure of the cross that will crush what the enemy could later exploit against your destiny. Instead of protecting your reputation at all costs, protect God’s purpose in your life. Let the process produce humility without inferiority, submission without slavery and strength without pride. When Christ’s nature becomes stronger than your flesh, you have not been humiliated; you have been transformed.

THOUGHT TO PONDER

Have I mistaken any genuine dealing of God for humiliation simply because it touched my pride or status? What part of my reputation am I still protecting more fiercely than God’s purpose for me?

PRAYER

Father, help me to recognise Your purpose in every genuine dealing. Break pride without breaking my spirit, and form the humility and obedience of Jesus deeply in me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
