There is a place a believer must stand if God will defend him, and that is an even place. The Psalmist said, “But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity: redeem me, and be merciful unto me. My foot standeth in an even place: in the congregations will I bless the Lord.” God is merciful, but never forget that He is also righteous. Mercy does not make God support crookedness, and grace does not make God endorse a double life. Don’t stand in a place where God cannot touch you. Don’t walk in a way that God cannot be involved with you. A man may be in church, singing and serving, yet inwardly he has shifted into an uneven place where God’s hand cannot rest on him with approval. That is why integrity is not a small matter; it is the ground on which divine defence can stand.

At that place of unevenness, sin may look pleasurable, profitable, or easy, but when oppression and attacks from hell arise, there is no defence. Isaiah told Israel that the Lord’s hand was not shortened that it could not save, neither was His ear heavy that it could not hear, but their iniquities had separated between them and their God. That is a serious matter. A believer must not live as if God is blind to what men cannot see. You can deceive men and get away with it for a season, but not with God. If your paths are crooked, your thoughts darkened, and your tongue trained in pretence, you have placed yourself where divine covering is hindered. God’s love is real, but His righteousness is not suspended. When a man refuses straight paths, he should not be surprised when he lacks straight answers from heaven. The even place is not just a position; it is a condition of the heart before God.

Be straight in your walk with God. Stand right in church and in life. Don’t live in pretence, don’t play double tongue or double life, and don’t practise inconsistency as a lifestyle. God loves sincere and faithful people, and He is quick to hear them. A double life is not a clever life; it is a disadvantage to your own soul. Make up your mind that your private and public life will agree before God. Set your ways right before Him before the day of trouble comes. May the Lord depend on you. May you stand where His hands can touch you, His ears can hear you, His eyes can see you, His mind can be on you, and His presence can overshadow you. Choose truth. Choose integrity. Choose the even place today and all your days.

THOUGHT TO PONDER: Am I standing where God can defend me? Is there any uneven place in my life that I must set right before Him today?

PRAYER: Lord, I make up my mind to set my ways right before You. I choose truth, integrity, and sincerity. Help me to stand in an even place with You in Jesus’ name.
