Listen while praying, commuting, or preparing for the day. There is a danger in the walk of faith that many believers fall into when delay begins to stretch; they start to create alternatives. Abraham faced this moment, and it is very instructive for you. After receiving God’s promise, and after some time had passed without visible manifestation, a human solution was introduced. Sarai said, “Go in unto my maid… it may be that I may obtain children by her,” and Abraham hearkened. That decision did not come from rebellion; it came from impatience mixed with reasoning. But sincerity does not make a method correct. This is where many believers go wrong. When God’s promise is taking time, they begin to look for another way to achieve what God has said. But you must understand this: God is committed to His promise, but He is also committed to His method.
Faith is not just about the destination; it is also about the process. God intended to bring Abraham’s promise through a supernatural intervention, not through human arrangement. But when Abraham agreed to an alternative, he stepped out of alignment. The Bible says, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” That means for God to work with you, you must agree with Him; not just in what He wants to do, but in how He wants to do it. Many believers agree with God’s promises, but they do not agree with His ways. They want the result, but they want to achieve it through their own strategy. That is not faith; that is substitution. And substitution always produces complications. Abraham’s decision with Hagar did not cancel God’s promise, but it created unnecessary problems that followed his household.
Take a decision today: you will not help God. If He has spoken, He is able to bring it to pass in His own way and in His own time. Do not let pressure push you into alternatives. Do not let delay push you into compromise. Stay with what God has said and how He has said it should happen. This requires patience, but it also requires trust. Faith is not just believing that God can do it; it is trusting Him enough to do it His way. Abraham eventually returned to God’s method, and the promise was fulfilled. But you can avoid unnecessary detours if you learn this lesson early. Refuse human arrangements when God has given a divine promise. Stay in agreement with Him, and your outcome will be pure, complete, and without regret.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
Am I trying to help God fulfil His promise through my own arrangements? What area of my life must I realign with God’s method today?
PRAYER
Father, help me to trust Your way and not create alternatives. Give me patience to stay in agreement with You until Your promise is fulfilled, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
