Listen while praying, commuting, or preparing for the day. There is a difference between belonging to the Body of Christ and knowing your own roots in Zion. Every believer is part of the same Body, but not every part of the Body has the same function, emphasis or formation. In the teaching on sonship, I want you to understand that you must know the spiritual house where God has planted you and the philosophy He is using there to shape your life. First Corinthians 12:18 says that God has set the members in the body “as it hath pleased him.” That means divine placement is not casual or accidental. You may listen to and receive from different ministers in the Body of Christ, but you must know the stock from which God is forming you. If you keep opening yourself indiscriminately to every philosophy, you can become confused in spirit even while listening to genuine Christians who themselves are properly planted elsewhere. Stability begins when you know where you belong.
Knowing your roots does not mean becoming proud, sectarian or suspicious of everybody outside your house. A hand and a leg belong to the same body, but they do not look alike or perform the same assignment. The issue is not outward style; the issue is the spiritual philosophy forming you. A person can be in the right family and still allow a different philosophy to begin reshaping his values. Hebrews 13:7 tells believers to remember those who have spoken the Word of God to them and to consider the outcome of their way of life. God gives you voices, examples and standards through which He establishes stability in you. If pressure comes and you abandon those foundations for whatever is currently popular or convenient, you may interrupt the formation God intended and begin to carry a mixture that weakens your spiritual identity.
Settle this matter: know where God has planted you and why. Don’t be a spiritual wanderer who changes direction whenever another message sounds attractive or whenever pressure comes. Receive from the larger Body of Christ with maturity, but remain clear about the house, doctrine, values and spiritual formation God has appointed for you. If you are not sure where your roots are, seek God seriously until that matter becomes clear. And once He has planted you, don’t despise the process because it is demanding. A tree cannot keep uprooting itself and still expect depth, stability and fruitfulness. Sonship requires rootedness, continuity and patience under God’s hand. Let God establish you until you can say with conviction, “This is where I am being formed and fashioned into the kind of son God intends me to become,” and then give yourself sincerely to that process.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
Do I know where God has planted me spiritually and what He is forming in me there? Have I allowed conflicting philosophies or convenience to weaken my rootedness?
PRAYER
Father, establish me where You have planted me. Give me discernment, stability and humility to receive from the Body of Christ without losing the formation You have ordained for my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
