5 October 2026: THE SPIRIT YOU CARRY WILL DECIDE WHAT YOU BECOME – Psalm 51:10; Numbers 14:24

What you become in life is not determined only by what you studied, the family you came from or the opportunities that came your way. There is also the matter of the spirit that you allow to rule and operate in your life. Psalm 51:10 records David praying, “renew a right spirit within me.” David understood that behaviour can flow from a spirit and disposition that has gained influence in a man. This is why you must not be careless about the spirit you carry. A person may be talented, intelligent and well trained, yet if the wrong spirit gains expression through him, those natural advantages will not produce the kind of life God intended. The spirit upon a man colours his responses, choices, relationships and ultimately his manifestation. Many people keep trying to correct outcomes without dealing with the spirit producing those outcomes, and that is why the same patterns keep returning.

The Bible also says of Caleb in Numbers 14:24 that he had “another spirit” with him and followed God fully. A different spirit is not always an evil spirit; in the right setting it can be exactly what is needed to break a negative pattern. If you come from a family where failure, fear, compromise or disorder has become normal, you need a different spirit so that a new story can begin from you. But you must also understand that a different spirit in the wrong environment, if it refuses divine formation, can become destructive. This is why spiritual alignment matters. God is not only concerned that you are sincere; He is concerned that the spirit operating through you agrees with His purpose. Sonship brings your inner disposition into harmony with the Father. It trains you to respond from God’s nature rather than from inherited reactions, culture or wounded pride.

Pay attention therefore to what is gaining influence in you. Don’t dismiss pride as personality, stubbornness as strength, independence as maturity or rebellion as boldness. Likewise, don’t despise humility, teachability, obedience and submission as weakness. The spirit you consistently yield to will eventually shape the person you become. Ask the Holy Spirit to expose every wrong influence and strengthen the right spirit in you. Guard your associations, your environment and the voices you permit to shape your thinking. Above all, allow the spirit of sonship to become the governing spirit of your life, because it brings you into alignment with the nature and character of God. When the right spirit is ruling, even difficult circumstances can become platforms for divine manifestation. But when the wrong spirit is ruling, even good opportunities can be wasted. Settle it: you must carry the right spirit into your destiny with God.

What spirit is most visible in the way I presently respond to people and situations? Have I excused any wrong attitude as personality instead of allowing God to correct it?

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, expose every wrong spirit and disposition operating in me. Strengthen the right spirit in my life and bring me into full alignment with the nature of my Father, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
