11 August 2026: TRUTH MUST BECOME YOUR DECISION – John 18:37; Ephesians 4:25

There are two things that must happen if anyone will live consistently in truth. First, the person must be born again; second, he must make a personal decision and commitment to truth. When you were not born again, the Spirit of Truth was not in you, and you could only be truthful to the extent of your natural discipline. But at salvation, God imparted His nature to you and placed His Spirit within you. You now have both the power and capacity to speak the truth every time. Therefore, when a believer lies, it is not because truthfulness is impossible; it is because he has chosen another way. People lie for different reasons. Some are afraid of punishment, some are ashamed of what they have done, and others are too proud to admit their mistakes. Whatever the reason, there must be a settled decision in your heart that you will stand for truth.

Never forget that you are never more like the devil than when you lie. Jesus said that the devil “abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.” Falsehood is his native language and core nature. He introduced the first lie in Eden by questioning what God had said and assuring Eve that disobedience would not produce the consequence God had declared. That method has not changed. The devil will still suggest that a small lie will protect you, help you escape embarrassment, or give you an advantage. But every time you bend the truth, you take on a nature that is contrary to Christ. Conversely, every time you tell the truth despite the cost, you become stronger in the things of God. Truth reinforces God’s nature within you, while falsehood weakens your spiritual life and creates room for the enemy’s influence.

You must not leave truthfulness to how you feel in the moment. Make a commitment before temptation comes: “Truth only, regardless of the consequences.” Decide that you will not tell outright lies, give misleading impressions, exaggerate facts, conceal important details, or arrange your words to make another person reach a false conclusion. A half-truth deliberately used to deceive is still falsehood. The Spirit of Truth will convict you whenever your conscience is still tender, but you must respond. If you mistakenly say something untrue, return and correct it. If fear makes you distort a report, go back and present it accurately. You may lose face, endure correction, or receive punishment, but you will preserve your fellowship with God. Do not exchange spiritual life for temporary escape. You are a child of truth, and the Spirit of truth lives in you. From today, let your commitment be settled: truth absolute and absolute truth. Stand in the even place by choosing what agrees with God, even when a lie appears easier.

THOUGHT TO PONDER: Have I made an unwavering personal commitment to truth? What fear, shame, or pride still tempts me to distort facts or create a false impression?

PRAYER: Father, establish me firmly in truth. Give me courage to speak honestly despite the cost, and deliver me from every fear, shame, and pride that encourages falsehood in Jesus’ name.
