Listen while praying, commuting, or preparing for the day.One of the most comforting truths you must settle as you walk the path of faith is this: nobody starts as a giant. Abraham, the man we celebrate as the father of faith, did not begin as a finished product. The Bible shows us clearly that at a point in his journey, he was still speaking based on his circumstance: “seeing I go childless…” That statement reveals a man whose eyes were still on his situation. Yet this same man later became unshakable in faith. What does that tell you? Faith grows. If you find yourself sometimes shaky, uncertain, or inconsistent in believing God, do not give up on yourself. Growth is a law of life. Trees grow, children grow, buildings rise from foundations; your faith must grow too. The danger is not that your faith is small; the danger is refusing to allow it to grow.
God does not abandon you because you are not yet where you should be; He begins to work on you. In Abraham’s case, God did not rebuke him for speaking based on his circumstance; instead, He began to guide him into alignment. God reiterated His promise to him, reaffirming His commitment. This is particularly important. When your faith is weak, God strengthens you through His Word. Many believers think God will wait until they are perfect before helping them, but the opposite is true, God helps you grow into the place where you can fully believe Him. But you must cooperate with Him. Abraham’s spirit had received the promise, but his mind and body had not yet agreed. That is where many believers are today; they believe in their spirit, but their thoughts and reactions are still governed by their circumstances. Faith must eventually take over your whole being; spirit, soul, and body, until you are fully persuaded.
Give yourself to the process of growth. Do not settle for where you are, but do not despise where you are either. Stay with God. Stay with His Word. Allow Him to keep working on your thinking, your vision, and your language. Every exposure to the Word is a step forward. Every time you choose to believe instead of doubt, you are growing. Abraham did not become unshakable overnight, but he became unshakable eventually because he stayed in the process. If you will do the same, your faith will develop, strengthen, and mature. The version of you that doubts today is not the version that will finish your journey, if you stay with God, you will become stable, established, and unmovable in faith.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
Am I discouraged by where my faith is today, or am I committed to growing it? What step can I take today to cooperate with God in my faith development?
PRAYER
Father, help me to grow in faith. Strengthen me through Your Word and guide me into full persuasion, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
