The Duty That Drives You To Seek God
One of the clearest indicators that you are touching the duty of your calling is that it begins to push you toward God. A true assignment from God will eventually bring you to a point where you realise that your natural strength is insufficient. At that moment, you will have only two choices: either retreat from the responsibility or seek God for the grace required to fulfil it. The duties connected to your calling are designed to bring you into deeper dependence on God. When you encounter responsibilities that stretch beyond your present capacity, they are often divine invitations to seek the Lord more seriously than before.
In many situations, the needs that appear around you are not accidental. Needs arise from different sources-some from the brokenness introduced by sin, some from ordinary human circumstances, and others from the obedience of believers to God’s instructions. Yet the callings that God places on people are His answer to those needs. When the early church grew rapidly, a new challenge emerged concerning the care of widows. That need led to the appointment of seven men whose ministry eventually opened doors for greater assignments, as seen in the lives of Stephen and Philip (Acts 6:1-8). The appearance of a need often reveals the direction of a calling waiting to develop. When you recognise that connection, you will begin to see challenges differently-not as interruptions, but as signals pointing you toward your responsibility in God’s programme.
Therefore, ask yourself a sincere question: what duty in my life today is forcing me to seek God more seriously? Many believers remain spiritually stagnant because they continually shift responsibilities to others instead of responding personally to the needs placed before them. When a challenge appears, they quickly look for someone more experienced to handle it. Yet sometimes God allows that very need to appear so that you will grow into the grace required to meet it. If you continually avoid the pressure of responsibility, you may also miss the development that would have come through it. But when you accept the duty and seek God for help, you position yourself to enter new levels of grace, wisdom, and effectiveness in fulfilling the calling God has placed upon your life.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
What responsibility in my life is currently pushing me to seek God more deeply? Am I responding to that duty, or am I avoiding it?
PRAYER
Father, open my eyes to recognise the duties connected to my calling. Give me the humility to seek You and the courage to grow into the responsibilities You have placed before me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
