In marriage, as in life, God demands that only tested and approved vessels be trusted. The Bible instructs, “Abstain from all appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22). When Joseph was cornered by Potiphar’s wife, he didn’t try to negotiate or reason with her; he fled immediately (Genesis 39:12). That is the pattern for every child of God when immorality presents itself: don’t dialogue, flee. Sadly, many believers excuse ungodly behaviour in relationships, hoping that marriage will fix the problem. But if someone is failing God’s tests before marriage, that weakness will only grow stronger after marriage.
Marriage is not a prop to make up for spiritual slackness. A woman must never marry a man simply because she thinks she can carry him along. Let him first pass God’s test faithfully. The same applies to men; you cannot pick a lady who fails the standards of consecration and assume she will change after the wedding. If she is already careless with purity, prayer, or obedience, marriage will not sanctify her. God Himself tests men before He commits serious matters of His kingdom into their hands; how much more the choice of a life partner. Refuse to reduce God’s standards in your pursuit of companionship.
A partner who fails the exam of integrity before marriage cannot be the answer to your destiny.
Practically, this means: don’t excuse fornication in courtship. Don’t cover carnality with emotions. Don’t assume marriage will make an unserious Christian serious. If God does not endorse someone as fit for your journey, you are setting yourself up for tears if you go ahead. Instead, demand the same standard heaven demands: purity, faithfulness, obedience, and submission to the will of God. When both husband and wife are tested and approved, marriage becomes a launchpad for destiny fulfilment. But if you prop someone up who failed heaven’s test, you have only signed up for a lifetime of frustration.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Am I ready to allow God’s standards to judge my relationship choices? Or am I reducing the bar just to please my flesh and avoid waiting?
PRAYER: Lord, help me never to lower Your standards. Test me, prove me, and align me with a partner who will pass Your test for destiny.
