Confusion at the junction of marriage is proof of immaturity. Many sisters cry, “Five brothers have proposed, I don’t know who to choose.” Many brothers hop from one relationship to another like restless birds. Why? Because spiritual senses have not been exercised. The Bible says, “Strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil” (Hebrews 5:14). Spiritual growth is not instant; it is the product of consistent intimacy with God. If you cannot hear God on small matters—what to wear, where to go—don’t expect clarity on the weight of destiny like marriage.
Jeremiah 29:11 reveals God’s thought toward you: peace, not evil, to give you an expected end. That includes your marital destiny. The challenge is that many believers elevate personal desires above divine direction. You want a tall man, fair woman, or rich partner, but God is after destiny alignment. Your flesh prays for specifications; your spirit must pray for accuracy. When desires rule you, you will be blinded by “specs” and ignore destiny. That’s why premarital sex, emotional manipulation, and desperation cloud discernment.
If you are confused at the junction of choice, it means your spiritual compass was already compromised before you got there.
Application: (1) Build intimacy with God before you seek a spouse. If you can’t discern His voice daily, you won’t hear Him clearly on marriage. (2) Lay your desires on the altar. Don’t treat God as a servant to stamp your wish list; treat Him as Lord who chooses best. (3) Refuse to lower His standard. Grace is not subsidy for error—it is strength for holiness. (4) Examine yourself: are you growing spiritually, or are you stagnant? Growth will purge carnal attractions and refine your discernment. (5) Trust God’s timing. Before you were born, He planned who fits your journey. Don’t rush into a yoke that will weaken your destiny. Your level of growth determines your clarity, and your clarity secures your future.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Am I growing daily in intimacy with God so I can discern His leading? Or am I allowing my desires to cloud my choices and confuse my destiny?
PRAYER: Lord, mature me in Your Word and Spirit so I can discern accurately. Deliver me from desires that fight destiny, and align me with Your perfect plan.
