Pride is a sickness that every person knows except the man that is sick of it. This is what brought Lucifer down. The devil knows what caused his fall from Lucifer the angel of light to the devil, and he is determined to push human beings into pride.
In 1985, we were in a meeting and a man of God was preaching. He said a prayer for himself which I took note of and made one of the cornerstones of my principles in life. His prayer was that God should never let him get to a place where there will be nobody in his life that could call him by name and say, “Akin, you are wrong! This is not the way to do this.” He knew the danger of pride and I can tell you that better men than you and I have been damaged by pride. Do not increase the list of the trophies of the devil. That is one of the reasons we pray.
A very strategic weapon that keeps pride from getting an in-road into your life is prayer. Show me a man that can still kneel, look up to God, and pray no matter how busy or successful he is. That is a man that pride has not possessed. Some people don’t have anything, yet they don’t pray, and you see pride wear them like a garment.
Deliberately condition yourself to attract the Spirit of humility. You cannot go wrong by showing respect and you cannot overdo respect.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, let whatever can open my heart to pride be cut off from my life in Jesus’ name. Amen!
