Make It Your Life Goal To Please God
As we come to the close of this journey on the acts that move the hand of God, one truth must remain firmly in your heart: the greatest ambition of a believer’s life should be to please God. Many people pursue success, recognition, comfort, or influence, but heaven measures life differently. In God’s kingdom, the most meaningful life is the life that pleases Him. The Bible tells us about Enoch, a man whose life was so pleasing to God that he did not see death. Scripture records that “before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God” (Hebrews 11:5). That statement reveals the highest testimony a believer can have. Enoch did not build an empire or leave behind monuments, yet heaven remembered him for one thing: he pleased God. And the Bible adds an important principle: “without faith it is impossible to please him” (Hebrews 11:6). Faith, obedience, love, sacrifice, and reverence are all expressions of a life that seeks God’s approval.
Throughout this month we have considered many acts that move the hand of God: acts of faith, acts of love, acts of obedience, acts of honour, and acts of commitment to God’s kingdom. None of these acts are random. They are the expressions of a heart that desires to walk with God in covenant relationship. When a believer chooses to live this way, his life becomes aligned with God’s purposes. The goal is no longer to impress people or pursue temporary applause. Instead, the believer seeks the quiet approval of heaven. Paul expressed this desire clearly when he prayed that believers might “walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing” (Colossians 1:10). That phrase reveals that pleasing God is not a single event but a continuous lifestyle. It is a daily decision to live in a way that honours Him.
Let this therefore become your personal charge: determine that pleasing God will be the central pursuit of your life. When opportunities arise to obey Him, respond without delay. When He places a demand upon your heart, do not hesitate. When you recognise moments where faith, sacrifice, or service are required, embrace them with joy. These acts may appear small in the eyes of people, but they carry great weight before God. One day you will discover that the acts you performed in obedience have positioned you under the covering of His mighty hand. When the storms of life arise, when critical moments appear, when human help fails, you will discover that the hand of God is already there waiting for you. Live your life in such a way that heaven can testify about you: this person pleased God.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
Is pleasing God truly the central pursuit of my life? What change must I make so that my daily decisions consistently reflect a desire to please Him?
PRAYER
Father, let pleasing You become the greatest pursuit of my life. Help me live by faith, walk in obedience, and respond to Your promptings so that my life continually honours You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
