One of the devil’s favourite tricks in prayer is to make you believe that if the answer does not appear immediately, then nothing happened. You must resist that deception. There is a difference between an unanswered prayer and an answer that is still in the process of manifestation. Hebrews 6:12 tells us to be followers of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Faith receives what God has said, while patience keeps you standing until what you received becomes visible. Many believers know how to pray, but they do not know how to wait in faith. They expect every prayer to produce instant physical evidence, and when it does not, they become discouraged, change their confession, or start the prayer all over again. You must understand that some answers manifest quickly, while others take time. The absence of immediate evidence does not mean the absence of divine activity.

Abraham is one of the clearest examples of this principle. Romans 4:20–21 says that he staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith, fully persuaded that what God had promised, He was able also to perform. Yet the promise did not manifest immediately. He had to stand through a period of waiting. His persuasion rested on the ability of the One who promised, not on how quickly the promise appeared. The challenge in waiting is that circumstances will keep talking to you. Time passes, the situation appears unchanged, and the mind begins to ask whether God really heard. This is where understanding becomes critical. Faith is not denial; it does not pretend that nothing is wrong. Faith simply refuses to allow present circumstances to become the final authority. You must learn to distinguish between what you can see now and what God has already set in motion in response to your prayer.

Do not develop what I call the “begin-again syndrome.” It is like planting a seed and digging it up every few days to check whether it is growing. Every time you disturb the process, you frustrate what has already begun. In the same way, some believers pray today, doubt tomorrow, pray again the next day, and then cancel their confidence with negative words. The problem is not returning to God in prayer; it is returning to unbelief as though He never heard you. Learn to stand. If you have prayed according to God’s Word, maintain your position. Continue to obey, continue to believe, and give the process room to mature. Prepare to stand for as long as necessary, and you will not be easily shaken by delay. Remember this: delay is not denial, and waiting does not mean God is inactive. Faith receives; patience holds on until the answer becomes visible.

THOUGHT TO PONDER: Have you been interpreting delay as proof that God has not answered you? What prayer have you repeatedly “dug up” through doubt, fear or negative words instead of standing in faith?

PRAYER: Father, strengthen me to stand in faith and patience. Deliver me from impatience, doubt and the urge to abandon what I have believed You for, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
