Listen while praying, commuting, or preparing for the day.One of the secrets in the spirit of Timothy is the way you treat what God has placed in your hands now. Many people are waiting for a bigger opportunity before they become serious, but God is watching what they are doing with the present one. Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.” Do your current job as if it is the highest job you can ever do for God. If your present assignment is sweeping the church, sweep it with the same seriousness with which another person preaches the gospel. If you are handling administration, music, follow-up, technical work or any other responsibility, don’t treat it as insignificant because it does not look impressive. The greatness of service is not first in the visibility of the assignment but in the heart and standard with which you carry it.
There are abilities God develops in you while you are faithfully serving that you may not recognise immediately. There are people who began serving in places that looked ordinary, yet leadership, initiative, spiritual capacity and other graces were quietly developing inside them. Only God knew where those things would eventually lead. This is why you must not wait for a special invitation before you give yourself to what God has already placed before you. Luke 16:10 says, “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.” The small assignment is not merely something to endure until something greater arrives; it is often the classroom in which capacity for the greater thing is being built. If you despise the present because you are dreaming about the future, you may arrive at the future without the character and capacity that present faithfulness was meant to develop.
Give your present place your all. Don’t serve according to how important the task makes you feel. Don’t reduce your standard because you think your gift deserves something bigger. God chooses where we serve, and our responsibility is to bring our best into that place. There is something powerful about a son who can make an ordinary assignment excellent because he understands that divine purpose can hide inside ordinary responsibility. Prepare properly. Finish what you start. Improve what has been entrusted to you. Become better at it. Let people encounter diligence, order and excellence because the assignment passed through your hands. You may not know what God is developing in you through it, but nothing faithfully done in His purpose is wasted. Before you ask for the next opportunity, honour the one already in your hands. The spirit of Timothy does not wait for a great platform to become great in service; it brings a great spirit to the present assignment.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
Am I giving my present assignment my best, or am I withholding excellence because I consider it too small? What capacity might God be developing in me through the responsibility already in my hands?
PRAYER
Father, deliver me from despising small assignments. Help me to give my best and my all wherever You place me, and develop in me every capacity I will need for the future You have prepared, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
