Listen while praying, commuting, or preparing for the day. There are things hidden in the flesh that you may not recognise immediately, but God knows what they can do to your destiny if they are left untouched. That is why the sonship process sometimes brings you into situations that expose reactions you did not know were still inside you. Hebrews 12:10 says that God chastens us “for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.” His dealings are therefore not random. The Father sees the future He has prepared for you, and He also sees what is presently in your nature that cannot safely enter that future. Pride may be sleeping quietly until somebody corrects you. Anger may remain hidden until your preference is denied. Independence may not appear until God asks you to submit to an arrangement you did not choose. The process brings these things to the surface so that they can be dealt with before they become instruments of destruction.
I want you to understand that God knows the structure of the cross that will crush what the devil has hidden in your flesh. That structure will not necessarily look the same for everybody. What God needs to confront in one person may be reputation; in another, it may be stubbornness, greed, ambition, impatience or the need to be recognised. Sometimes He will use a person or circumstance that you naturally feel you have a reason to react against. That is where the deeper work begins. The issue may not even be the person; the issue is what your reaction is revealing about you. Psalm 51:17 speaks about “a broken and a contrite heart.” Brokenness is not weakness or loss of personality. It is the condition in which pride and self-will no longer prevent God from having His way. A broken son can still be strong, but that strength is now under divine government.
Don’t keep protecting what God is trying to break. Some believers pray for greater anointing, influence and responsibility while defending the very attitudes that would make those things dangerous in their hands. Let the Father do a thorough work in you. When something repeatedly exposes the same wrong reaction, stop blaming everybody around you and ask God what He wants to remove. If He touches your pride, yield. If He confronts stubbornness, adjust. If ambition is becoming stronger than obedience, surrender it. The breaking of the flesh is not the destruction of your destiny; it is part of its preservation. God is preparing a son who can carry what He has prepared without being destroyed by it. Submit to His dealings until your strength is no longer the strength of self, but the strength of a life that has come under the government of the Father.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
What recurring reaction may be revealing something God wants to break in me? Am I defending any attitude that could become dangerous when greater responsibility comes?
PRAYER
Father, expose and break every work of the flesh that can hinder Your purpose in me. Give me a contrite heart that yields fully to Your dealings and becomes fit for Your use, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
