12 September 2026: YOUR FUTURE IS HIDDEN IN TODAY’S DISCIPLINE – Proverbs 21:20; Proverbs 9:1-3

Many people say they cannot save because their income is not enough. In many cases, the deeper problem is not insufficiency but a lack of discipline. Wisdom does not wait until circumstances become comfortable before it begins to build. Years ago, the Holy Ghost instructed us to set aside twenty per cent of our income and leave it untouched for seven years. Those who obeyed that counsel eventually saw the benefit. The instruction may have looked difficult at the time, but wisdom was preparing a future their present income could not reveal. Prosperity begins in the heart before it appears in the account. If discipline is absent, an increase in salary will not create stability; it will simply enlarge the lifestyle that already consumes everything.

Wisdom cries out in libraries, books, newspapers, seminars, messages and practical instructions, yet many believers ignore her voice. They prefer emotional sympathy because sympathy does not demand change. They want someone to pity their condition, pray over them and provide immediate relief, but they resist the habits that would prevent the problem from returning. A well-paying job can become a trap when it creates false confidence. A person may assume that the salary will always be there and therefore neglect savings, investments and the development of other capacities. When the job is threatened, panic reveals where the confidence truly was. Do not wait for a crisis before obeying instructions that wisdom has been giving you for years.

Begin with a clear and realistic rule. Decide what proportion of your income will be preserved before spending begins. It may not yet be twenty per cent, but it must be meaningful, consistent and protected. Saving what remains after spending rarely works because appetite will always find a use for what is available. Put wisdom first. Separate the money, limit access to it and resist the temptation to raid it for ordinary desires. At the same time, pursue knowledge about legitimate ways to grow what you preserve. Saving alone is not the final destination, but it creates the foundation for future opportunities. Do not say, “I will start when I earn more.” Start now, so that when more comes, discipline is already in place. A person who cannot govern a small amount will struggle to govern a larger one. Financial independence is not built by one dramatic event; it is built by repeated obedience. Let every deposit become a declaration that your future will not be consumed by your present appetite. Wisdom is building a house for you, one disciplined decision at a time.
