23 July 2026: THE DEVIL IS NOT WHO YOU THINK – Hebrews 2:14-15; 1 John 3:8

There is a major misunderstanding among many believers today concerning the devil, and that misunderstanding is costing them victory. Many still think the devil is as powerful as he used to be, and because of that wrong belief, they live in fear and defeat. But the truth from Scripture is clear: the devil is not who he used to be. Before Jesus came, the devil had authority over the human race through Adam’s fall. But when Jesus came, died, and rose again, He broke that authority. The Bible says Jesus destroyed him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. That means the devil is no longer a ruler over the believer, he is a defeated enemy.

The problem is not the power of the devil; it is the ignorance of believers. The devil now operates through deception, not dominion. If he can convince you that he is still powerful over you, you will submit to him unnecessarily. But if you know the truth, you will resist him. The Bible says, “resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Notice, it did not say he will fight you endlessly; it says he will flee. That is not the behaviour of a superior power; that is the reaction of a defeated enemy. Jesus has already stripped him of his authority, and now every believer has the right to stand against him in the name of Jesus.

So, correct your understanding today. Stop fearing the devil as though he has control over your life. He only has access where he is permitted. When you know your position in Christ, you will deal with him from a place of authority, not fear. Refuse every lie that magnifies the devil above what Scripture says about him. Stand on the finished work of Christ and exercise your authority boldly. The victory has already been won; your responsibility is to enforce it. When your understanding is correct, your faith will be strong, and your life will reflect the dominion that Christ has given you.

Do I truly see the devil as a defeated enemy, or do I still fear him? What lies about his power have I unknowingly believed?

PRAYER

Father, open my eyes to the truth about the devil. Help me to stand in the victory Christ has given me and to resist every deception, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
