Listen while praying, commuting, or preparing for the day.Another important way believers discover the duty of their calling is by learning how to relieve the burdens carried by those God has placed over them. In every ministry, organisation, or leadership structure, there are responsibilities that demand the leader’s attention and others that can be handled by faithful helpers. When believers recognise this difference and willingly take responsibility for certain tasks, they not only strengthen the work but also grow into deeper levels of service themselves. In the early church, the apostles realised that the growing administrative needs of the congregation were distracting them from their primary assignment of prayer and the ministry of the Word. As a result, seven men were appointed to handle those responsibilities so that the apostles could focus on their core calling (Acts 6:2-4).
This principle continues to operate today. When believers sincerely ask how they can support and relieve the burdens of their leaders, they position themselves in a place where God can develop their calling. Such service is not about seeking recognition or promotion; it is about participating faithfully in the work of God. Sometimes a leader may be distracted by legitimate responsibilities that others can handle more effectively. When a believer steps forward to take responsibility in such areas, he allows the leader to focus on higher priorities while also growing in capacity and maturity. Through this process, God trains individuals to carry greater responsibilities in the future.
Therefore, cultivate a servant’s heart toward the work God has connected you to. Instead of waiting for formal titles or positions, look for ways to contribute meaningfully to the responsibilities around you. Ask sincerely how you can help lighten the burdens carried by others. The duties you embrace today may seem simple, but they can become the pathway through which God develops your calling. As you serve faithfully and humbly, your capacity will increase, your understanding will deepen, and your life will become more effective in advancing God’s purpose.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
What burdens within the work God has connected me to can I help relieve? How can my service strengthen the effectiveness of those leading the work?
PRAYER
Lord, give me a servant’s heart to support the work You have entrusted to my leaders. Help me recognise the responsibilities I can carry faithfully so that Your work may advance and my calling may develop, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
