As you grow in God, you must move from merely enjoying divine acceptance to pursuing divine approval. Acceptance is yours because of Jesus; approval answers to a life that pleases the Father. Jesus said, “He that sent me is with me… for I do always those things that please him” (John 8:29, KJV). I want you to find what pleases the Father and do it consistently. Thanksgiving is one of those things. It delights Him more than your petitions, more than long fasts done with a murmuring heart. Gratitude says, “I recognise Your hand; I agree with Your mercy; I return to give You glory.”
There are immature ways to say, “thank you,” and there are mature ways that carry weight. Children mutter thanks because they were prompted; sons return unprompted and pour value into their words, posture, and gifts. In Luke 17, ten lepers were cleansed, but only one returned; to him Jesus said, “thy faith hath made thee whole.” Thanksgiving completes what faith begins. Many believers live under Heaven’s frown, not because God has withdrawn acceptance, but because they have not learned the pleasure of prompt, precise, proportionate gratitude.
Pray to grow in genuine thanksgiving — free of performance, full of revelation, and fitting for the mercy you received.
Practically, train for approval. First, recognise: name exactly what God did, what He prevented, and whom He used. Second, return: do not delay; thanksgiving decays when it is late. Third, respond: choose words and a posture you would never offer a man, and let your gift tell the truth about how deeply you value the intervention. Build family rhythms — weekly gratitude reviews, testimony moments, and memorial seeds that say, “This is the Lord’s doing.” Let thanksgiving be your first language in prayer and your last word after every breakthrough. When you do the things that please Him, you will find His presence and partnership abiding with you in new measures.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Where have I enjoyed acceptance but neglected approval by withholding gratitude? What precise return — words, posture, and gift — will I bring today that truly pleases the Father?
PRAYER: Father, grow me from casual thanks to what pleases You. Teach me prompt, precise, proportionate gratitude that completes faith and attracts Your approval, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
