Every believer is given a measure of faith at salvation, but that faith must grow. You can’t afford to remain at the same level of faith with which you got saved. Just as the human body needs regular feeding to grow, your faith life must be sustained by consistent feeding on God’s Word. Many believers take three balanced meals for their body daily but feed their spirit man only once a week. That’s spiritual starvation! If you want to be strong in faith, then you must eat the food of faith, which is the Word of God. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, “…Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
The Word of God is your spiritual food. Joshua 1:8 says you are to meditate on it day and night. Don’t just wait for Sunday to hear the Word; feed on it in your private devotion and confession. Don’t let a day go by without a solid intake of scripture. Let Colossians 3:16 become your daily practice: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly…” Don’t let it be scanty in your life. Apart from solid food, your faith also needs snacks and vitamins. Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs are like snacks and vitamins that nourish your inner man. When you speak and sing them in worship, your faith receives a boost.
Worship raises the atmosphere of faith and draws your heart closer to God. They keep you in alignment and prevent spiritual dryness.
You must also make deliberate choices to avoid spiritual junk food. Avoid materials that glorify failure, sickness, fear, and impossibilities. If any teaching, movie, book, or conversation contradicts God’s truth, flee from it. Don’t allow it to settle in your heart. Your spirit was not made to digest fear or failure. Instead, fill your atmosphere with psalms, spiritual songs, and scriptures. Speak them out. Declare them aloud. That’s how to keep your faith alive and active. Faith must be fed, and it must be fed daily. Don’t let the devil starve you. Don’t be casual with the Word. Be deliberate in growing your faith.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Are you feeding your faith with the Word daily or leaving it to starve? What changes can you make to your daily routine to strengthen your faith?
Lord, I will not remain at the same level of faith. I receive grace to grow strong by feeding on Your Word daily in Jesus’ name.
