God will never give an instruction that He has not empowered you to obey. That is the integrity of God. His commandments are not grievous, and every time He gives you a command, He releases the grace to carry it out. When the Bible says, “Lie not one to another,” or “Flee fornication,” it is not speaking to the sinner. The sinner has no capacity to fulfil divine commandments. These instructions are given to believers—men and women who have received the new nature through salvation. The grace of God that brings salvation also teaches us to deny ungodliness.
If you are born again, then you have what it takes to obey God. That divine capacity is what sets you apart from the man who is yet to be saved.
However, many people who claim to be Christians still struggle with sin habitually, and the root of that struggle is often a faulty foundation—lack of genuine salvation. Church attendance does not equal salvation. A person may spend years in religious activities and still not be born again. The sure evidence of salvation is the presence of grace—grace that empowers you to obey God’s Word and overcome sin. If you’ve been in church and you constantly feel powerless in the face of sin, you need to examine your salvation. The man who is born again is not sinless, but he has the power not to sin. The Holy Spirit in him convicts, strengthens, and helps him to live victoriously. Without salvation, that help is unavailable.
If you are reading this and you’re unsure of your salvation, you can settle it now. Say this from your heart: “Father, I come to You in Jesus’ name. I know I’m a sinner and I cannot save myself. But Jesus died for me that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour. Forgive all my sins, wash me with Your blood, and make me whole. I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Amen.” If you made that decision, send your testimony to info@dreamcentre.org. More importantly, start building your life in the Word, and let the grace of God now in you begin to produce righteousness and victory daily.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Are you genuinely born again and operating by God’s grace? How will you practically rely on this grace to overcome sin daily?
Lord, help me rely daily on Your grace to live victoriously. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
