19 December 2023: THE LAW OF ROLES AND ASSIGNMENTS IN MARRIAGE (2) – Psalm 127:5; Colossians 3:18-21 (AMP)

Interestingly, you find parents damaging their children unwittingly because they don’t understand the differences between their children of different sexes. For instance, a man must have a competitive spirit. It is the destruction of manhood to have a man who is unwilling to compete in life. It is unmanly and symptomatic for a man to be unwilling to fight for what belongs to him. A man must be willing to face opposition in life head-on when the occasion arises. That is a key part of what it means to be a man. It’s a woman that should adapt to her man, not the other way around.

A man must be able to draw a line and say, “This is how far and no further; this is my responsibility”. Then the family lines up behind him, and he says, “Let’s move.”

The Bible says in Psalm 127:5, “Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate”. Life has destroyed that competitive edge in some men.

In the past, I supported the Arsenal football club and everyone in the house followed me except my son. He preferred Manchester United. My wife would say, “Support Daddy” but he would say “No, we will beat Daddy’s team”. Even though my son looked small, I didn’t take away his independence and willingness to support another team. I enjoyed that competition because that is what he will take into life.

Some Christians have been told that a competitive edge is demonic and have settled for mediocrity and compromise with far less than what God planned for them in life.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to properly respect and enforce the different roles and assignments You’ve given to me and my spouse. Amen!
