08 April 2025: DISCERNING BY THE SPIRIT – 1 Corinthians 2:14; Hebrews 5:14

Spiritual discernment is essential for every believer who desires to walk accurately in God’s will. 1 Corinthians 2:14 teaches, “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God… because they are spiritually discerned.” Without spiritual discernment, your life decisions will be limited to natural reasoning, leaving you vulnerable to deception and confusion.

Discernment grows as you regularly feed your spirit with God’s Word. It sharpens your spiritual senses, helping you distinguish clearly between truth and error, genuine and counterfeit. Believers who consistently train their spiritual senses become adept at recognising God’s voice, guidance, and direction in everyday situations.

Hebrews 5:14 says, “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” This spiritual maturity and sensitivity result from regular practice—exercising your spirit through intentional study, meditation, and obedience to God’s instructions.

Discernment protects you from deception and empowers you to navigate life’s complexities with confidence.

Never rely solely on external appearances or human reasoning; instead, trust the Holy Spirit’s inner prompting within your spirit. As you sharpen your discernment, you will live accurately and effectively, aligned fully with God’s purposes.
