Our Bible passage says, “But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.” Paul was refuting some behaviour and practices that some people wanted to bring into the church of God and he put his foot down saying we have no such customs and neither do the other churches.
Therefore, we see that each church has her own customs and culture based on the vision that God gave the founder of the church. When you find the church that God has ordained for your spiritual welfare and growth, it is important that you love their culture. Don't join those that are always looking for a way to make the church more acceptable to the crowds. You cannot flourish in a church that you are always reacting against their structure and customs. It is either it is not your place or you are a rebel.
There are some things that are simply the pattern and the custom that the church has adopted; the way they want to do their things in order to do the work that God gave to them. Therefore, take time to patiently learn the customs in your local church and adapt yourself to those customs. Don't insist that you want to remain the way you have always been. You are to adapt to the church, not vice versa. Any church that adapts to fit what the people want cannot harness those people for the Lord.
PRAYER: Lord, I receive and accept the God-give customs and pattern in the house you have planted me, let me be an extender of the vision in Jesus’ name. Amen.
