Many believers struggle in their walk with God, not because God is unwilling to bless them, but because they relate with Him from the wrong foundation. Without a revelation of mercy, the heart unconsciously slips into striving: trying to earn answers, deserve help, or qualify for favour. But the moment mercy becomes clear, pressure lifts. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy (Psalm 103:8). Mercy is not something God releases; it is His foremost attribute. It is both inherent in His nature and generous in its expression. When you truly see God as merciful, your confidence in expecting good things from Him is restored.
The depth of God’s mercy is revealed in how He deals with human weakness. He does not reward us according to our iniquities nor deal with us after our sins (Psalm 103:10). Mercy goes beyond feeling compassion; it acts to address the situation. Just as a father tenderly cares for a child, God’s mercy removes transgressions and treats His children with affection and patience (Psalm 103:12–13). He remembers that we are dust. This understanding is critical because it reshapes how you see delays, mistakes, and unanswered prayers. When mercy is your reference point, you stop interpreting silence as rejection.
You recognise that God’s mercy is everlasting and deliberately positioned to cover every stage of your journey.
So how should this truth affect you today? Adjust your expectations. Stop approaching God as though you are standing before a reluctant Judge. Come as a child to a merciful Father. When mercy becomes your foundation, faith rises naturally and prayer becomes restful, not stressful. You begin to expect help instead of bracing for disappointment. Mercy gives you permission to hope again. As this month unfolds, settle this in your heart: your future with God is not driven by your will or effort alone, but by the mercy He freely supplies. And when mercy is involved, God always does more than enough.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Have I been striving to earn what God wants to give by mercy? How will my expectations change if I fully trust God’s merciful nature?
PRIÈRE: Father, thank You for revealing Your mercy to me. Help me to rest in Your compassion and expect good things from You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
