Faith can be vulnerable when exposed to the wrong voices. In Mark 5, Jairus had just received Jesus’ agreement to heal his daughter. But on the way, some people came with a contrary report, “Don’t trouble the Master, your daughter is dead.” That statement was enough to deflate Jairus’ faith. Immediately, Jesus intercepted and said, “Be not afraid, only believe.” Many people start out in faith but end up in fear, not because their situation changed, but because they listened to the wrong voice. The facts did not cancel Jesus’ ability; however, they could have cancelled Jairus’ faith.
The same is true today—bad news does not change God’s power, but it can shut down your faith if you let it.
The Bible warns us in Proverbs 14:7, “Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.” It is not just about what you hear but how you hear it and from whom. The wrong voices carry emotional and spiritual weight that can poison your belief system. There are three types of people to avoid when you’re feeding your faith: those who are uninformed, those who are misinformed, and those who are partially informed. You cannot build faith on incomplete or corrupted knowledge. What you need is truth—solid truth from God’s Word. The truth doesn’t deny facts, it supersedes them.
If you must live by faith and obtain the promises of God, then your association matters. Protect your environment and circle. Stay away from those who dilute your conviction or trivialise your walk with God. The devil knows he cannot defeat raw faith, so he tries to replace it with fear or reasonings through what you hear. Choose the truth of God’s Word above all else and stay in the company of those who speak it. When faith is under pressure, don’t entertain voices of doubt—hold on to the promise, and let only truth anchor your heart.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: What voices have the most influence over your thoughts when you are believing God? Are they drawing you deeper into faith or dragging you into fear?
Father, I silence every voice of fear and refuse every report that contradicts Your promise in Jesus’ name.
