06 April 2026: HONOUR IS THE FIRST ACT THAT MOVES GOD’S HAND – Malachi 1:6; Proverbs 3:9

One of the first acts that moves the hand of God in a person’s favour is honour. Honour is not merely a polite religious gesture; it is the way we place value on God in our lives. The Bible asks a very searching question: “A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if I be a father, where is mine honour?” (Malachi 1:6 KJV). That question reveals something about the heart of God. God expects those who call Him Father to treat Him with honour. In the original sense of the word, honour means to set a value upon something. That means honour is revealed by how much importance we place on a person or thing. When a believer truly honours God, it shows in the way he thinks about God, the way he behaves in God’s presence, and the way he orders his life around God’s priorities. Many believers say they love God, but their daily choices show the true value they place on Him. Honour is therefore not measured by words alone but by the practical place God occupies in a person’s life.

God Himself has already placed a value on certain things, and He expects His people to recognise and respect that value. When we honour what God honours, we position ourselves for His favour. But when we treat lightly what God considers important, we provoke His displeasure. This is why honour is such a powerful spiritual principle. It affects the way we relate to God, the way we treat people, and the way we conduct ourselves in daily life. Honour for God must go beyond singing songs or speaking religious words. It must be reflected in obedience, reverence, and the way we prioritise Him above every other influence in our lives. Some believers assume that God is satisfied with outward religious activity while their hearts remain distant from Him. But God is not impressed by empty gestures. If our lips praise Him while our actions dishonour Him, our worship becomes nothing more than flattery.

True honour means that our hearts bow before God in obedience and sincerity.

When honour is present in a believer’s life, it begins to shape behaviour. The person who honours God will think differently about how he conducts himself in God’s presence. He will not treat the things of God casually or approach them with carelessness. Instead, he becomes conscious that he is dealing with the Most High. This consciousness produces reverence and responsibility. Honour also protects a believer from the dangerous attitude of familiarity with God. Familiarity makes people take God for granted by assuming that He does not mind their careless behaviour. But the believer who understands honour knows that God does mind. Honour therefore becomes a powerful act that attracts the favourable hand of God. When a person deliberately brings honour into his relationship with God, he begins to experience a different dimension of divine involvement in his life.

THOUGHT TO PONDER: What value do my daily actions place on God? In what practical way can I demonstrate honour for Him today?

PRIÈRE: Father, teach me to honour You with my heart, my actions, and my priorities. Help me live with reverence for Your presence so that Your hand will continually work in my favour, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
