22 February 2026: FAMILIARITY CAN BLOCK YOUR HARVEST – Mark 6:4; 2 Corinthians 5:20

One of the strangest tragedies in the Bible is that Jesus could do mighty works in many places, yet in His own town, people related with him in the flesh, and they shut their own door. Familiarity can make people look at the gift of God and see only commonness. That same spirit can sit around your life too: especially with family, old friends, neighbours, office mates. They know your past, they know your surname, they think they know your story, so they conclude they know your God. And because of that, you can become timid around them, careful, quiet: like a man carrying medicine but ashamed to open the bottle. Jesus said it plainly: “A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country (Mark 6:4 KJV).” Don’t ignore that law. If you don’t handle familiarity well, the closest people to you can remain the farthest from salvation.

Now, you must not respond with anger or pride. You are not their saviour; you are Christ’s ambassador. “We are ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20 KJV).” An ambassador doesn’t beg, and he doesn’t quarrel; he represents his King with dignity. You must learn to approach people close to you with wisdom, patience, and honour. Sometimes you will be the first Bible they will ever read; your consistency will preach louder than your first sermon. So don’t let their mockery provoke you into flesh. Don’t try to impress them; be steady. Keep praying, keep loving, keep serving, and keep bringing the gospel back to the centre. Familiarity thrives where your witness is only talk; it begins to break where your life carries weight and your words carry grace.

And sometimes, you don’t need to force the door: you just need to keep placing the truth at the doorstep until one day the heart opens.

So take a practical step today. First, pick two or three close people that have become difficult ground, and start with intercession: call their names before God until your heart is hot again. Second, remove offence: if there is any quarrel, settle it; bitterness makes your message smell. Third, plan a simple, honour-filled contact: call, visit, or invite them: then present Christ plainly, not like a lecturer, but like a man pleading for destiny. Don’t let familiarity steal your harvest; treat their souls as serious and keep representing your King until light breaks through.

THOUGHT TO PONDER: Has familiarity silenced my witness to family and close friends? What one step will I take this week: pray, call, visit: to present Christ again with honour?

PRIÈRE: Father, give me wisdom and love to reach those closest to me. Break familiarity and offence, open hearts, and use me to bring them to Jesus. Amen.
