One of the greatest mistakes young people make is trying to “help” God by propping up someone He has not approved for them. Many sisters say, “He is not serious with God, but I will change him after marriage.” Many brothers assume, “She doesn’t like church now, but when I marry her, she will follow me.” That is deception! The Bible says, “Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). God knows what you cannot see. If God has not planted that relationship, it will be uprooted no matter your effort (Matthew 15:13). You cannot force destiny into alignment with a wrong choice.
I recall a young lady who ignored counsel and married a man she thought she could reform. He drank, lied, and had no regard for God. She assumed marriage would sober him. Instead, marriage magnified his wickedness, and she became a lifelong nurse to his dysfunction. The tragedy is that she sacrificed her calling and ministry on the altar of misplaced emotions. Brothers and sisters, do not use marriage as a rehabilitation centre. You are not the Holy Spirit. Only God changes people. If the person has not passed God’s test before marriage, don’t carry them on your head, hoping to fix them later.
Marriage amplifies character—it never erases it.
Application: (1) Never ignore red flags; the Holy Ghost shows them early. (2) Test people before trusting them with destiny. Joseph was tested before he entered his place of glory; so must your partner. (3) Wait for God’s confirmation. Don’t be pressured by age, peers, or emotions. (4) Refuse to pity-marry. Compassion is not covenant. (5) Remember: a wrong partner can drain you for decades, but the right partner multiplies you. Hear my decree: you will not waste your destiny trying to prop up someone God has rejected. Your marriage will be a garden God Himself planted.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Am I trying to play God by fixing someone He has not approved? Do I have the patience to wait for God’s planting rather than forcing mine?
PRIÈRE: Lord, keep me from propping up what You have not planted. Give me discernment to wait for Your choice and courage to reject every counterfeit.
