The devil knows the value of confidence, and that is why he attacks it fiercely in the believer. If you rise to pray without confidence, you are already defeated before you start. James says, “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord” (James 1:6–7). That is a blunt verdict: a man who doubts cannot receive. Prayer without confidence is powerless—it produces words, not results. When you go before God with timidity, hesitation, or uncertainty, heaven does not move. God is not flattered by your long hours; He is moved by your confident faith.
Confidence is not human boldness; it is the assurance that comes from knowing your standing with God through Christ. The writer of Hebrews declares, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:16). You are not a beggar crawling into the throne room—you are a son invited to come boldly. Yet many Christians still pray like outsiders peeping into the palace of a king. They spend their time wondering if God will listen, if they are worthy enough, or if their words will count.
That lack of confidence paralyses their prayer life and cheats them of answers that God is more than willing to give.
I want you to understand this truth: heaven responds to faith, not to fear. The next time you kneel to pray, don’t approach God like a stranger; come as one who belongs there. If the blood of Jesus has cleansed you, then confidence is your right. Guard it jealously. The devil will whisper your past sins, your failures, or your weaknesses to rob you of boldness, but silence him with the Word. When you pray with confidence, you receive answers; when you pray with doubt, you waste energy. Decide today that you will never again let the devil disarm you of confidence. Step into the throne room boldly, and obtain mercy and help for every need.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Do I approach prayer as a son with confidence, or as a beggar with fear? How will I boldly silence the devil’s accusations at the throne of grace?
PRAYER: Father, clothe me with boldness in prayer. Let no whisper of the enemy rob me of confidence when I stand before You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
